Bill Guerin Expresses Optimism on Kirill Kaprizov Situation
It’s been three weeks since reports first surfaced that Minnesota Wild superstar winger, Kirill Kaprizov, had fled his native country of Russia, because he was wanted for buying a fake military ID in 2017. The news only got scarier from there.
Kaprizov even tried to enter the United States via Dubai and through the Caribbean Islands, but reportedly failed. Leaders throughout the NHL, including Wild owner Craig Leipold, have expressed grave concern.
On Tuesday, Wild general manager, Bill Guerin, spoke with The Athletic’s Michael Russo. Unfortunately, Billy turned down the latest opportunity to relay any detailed update on Kaprizov’s current situation. He did, however, portray optimism on when and how this whole thing reaches the finish line.
#mnwild GM Bill Guerin remains confident the Kirill Kaprizov situation is in the process of being rectified in Russia and that he’ll be back in Minnesota before the season: “He should be OK and we should be OK. But it’s delicate and I'd rather not comment on it.”

We may never get the real story on this entire Kaprizov defection saga. And someday, that might bug me. But for now, I’m just happy to see the Minnesota Wild express some optimism. That, when this incredible ordeal finally ends, Kaprizov will be safely in the United States and, again, skating in green, white and red at the Xcel Energy Center.
