The Minnesota Wild have grown quite the prospect pipeline from the KHL, since they hit on Kirill Kaprizov in the 5th round of the NHL Draft nearly a decade ago (2015). Their most recent KHL investment, Danila Yurov was taken with the #24 overall pick in 2022, much higher than his future teammate and countryman.

Yurov is the #29 overall prospect at HockeyWriters, #53 overall at EliteProspects and #12 overall at The Athletic (Scott Wheeler). After taking his lumps and riding some pine for the Metallurg Magnitogorsk during much of his first two seasons in Russia’s top hockey league, there’s no doubt the 20-year-old has figured things out in year 3.

Minnesota Wild prospect Danila Yurov breaking KHL scoring records

With two games still remaining on Metallurg’s schedule, Danila’s 48 points this season has already set the KHL record for most single-season points by any play under 21-years-old. Yurov doesn’t turn 21 for another 10 months (Dec. 22). Some of the names he’s passed on the list include superstar NHL names like Vladimir Tarasenko, Evgeny Kuznetsov and Kirill Kaprizov.

His 48 points rank top-20 in the KHL, So do his 21 goals and 27 assists. How good has Yurov been and how excited should Minnesota Wild fans be to get him over here and on the ice at Xcel Energy Center? Very excited, though we aren’t expected to see him until ath 2025-26 season.

There were some reports that surfaced saying Yurov had signed a short-term contract with Metallurg, but the new deal hasn’t been confirmed. Either way, it doesn’t seem like Bill Guerin is in a hurry to get his newest prized russian possession over to the United State next year. We will see if that changes when the KHL season ends.
