Are you feening for Vikings offseason news yet? You’re damn right you are! The stove is getting hot already.

Charley Walters of the Pioneer Press is reporting this morning that Kevin Stefanski is definitely on his way out of Minnesota. This isn’t necessarily going to shock anyone.

What is surprising is that Stefanski is apparently out on his own accord.

It seems clear that interim Vikings offensive coordinator Kevin Stefanski, whose contract ends Tuesday, isn’t returning. That, by the way, looks like Stefanski’s choice, not the team’s.

Charley doesn’t go as far as saying that Stefanski is out because of Zimmer’s lack of future stability but he does say that, as a lame duck Head Coach, retaining assistants may be difficult in general..

We aren’t just left hanging though, now that our lead candidate is out of the picure. We have a new top dog in the running for the Vikings Offensive Coordinator job. He’s a familiar face.

Under serious consideration for the Vikings’ offensive coordinator job is Mike Mularkey. But the Vikings might have to compete with the Atlanta Falcons and Jacksonville Jaguars to get the three-time NFL head coach.

Mularkey was a tight end with the Vikings for 6 years, before eventually becoming a head coach for 3 different franchises (Bills, Jaguars, Texans). He’d be exactly what Zimmer wants. Charley notes that Mularkey is a guy who likes to run the ball and is known for developing quarterbacks. It’s a match made in 1980’s football heaven.

With Zim, Spielman, and this coaching search; I’m to the point where I don’t care who they pick. At the end of the day, Zimmer knows, just like the rest of us, that he is hooking the wagon holding his future, to whomever he does eventually pick. If 2019 is a success then Mike will be in Minnesota for a very long time. If not, we’ll be bowling for new coaches next season… and possibly a new GM too.
