With the Super Bowl in the rearview mirror, the Minnesota Vikings have officially been joined in offseason mode by all of their competitors. This is a significant winter for a reset of important spots on the roster.

So far the focus has been on coaching changes, and there have been plenty, just not at the top. Additionally, Kwesi Adofo-Mensah was shown the door, meaning the offseason pressure solely lies on the shoulders of head coach Kevin O’Connell.

Ryan Cordell lands MN Vikings TE coach opening

Minnesota’s tight ends coach last season, Brian Angelichio, is one of the assistants lost to a promotion elsewhere this offseason, after he was hired as Pittsburgh’s offensive coordinator.

But instead of looking externally, the Vikings are filling their vacant tight end coaching position internally, according to Matt Zenitz (CBS Sports) by promoting game management and passing game specialist Ryan Cordell to his first positions coaching position of his young NFL coaching career.

Ryan Cordell started as an intern with the San Francisco 49ers back in 2014. He worked with the Niners until joining the Cleveland Browns in 2019, then the Minnesota Vikings in 2022.

Now, Cordell will coach a position that has a ton of questions entering the offseason. T.J. Hockenson is an obvious restructure candidate or cut candidate, with a cap hit of more than $21 million in 2026.

Josh Oliver was extended last summer, and has shined during stretches in which Hockenson was unavailable. He’s also widely considered the league’s top blocking tight end. The Minnesota Vikings also drafted Gavin Bartholomew last April. Unfortunately, he never saw the field as a rookie, due to injury.
