MN Vikings Shut Out of Pro Bowl in Historic Fashion

The Minnesota Vikings have not been a good football team this season. While a 7-8 record isn’t disastrous, there have been few moments where looked like a team anyone needed to worry about. Much of that falls on the quarterback play, or lack thereof, but several other position groups have come up short as well.
Only the New England Patriots spent more money than the Vikings this offseason. Minnesota heavily revamped both lines, investing significant resources on each side of the ball. Unfortunately, things simply haven’t gone according to plan.
With no playoff berth on the horizon, there was at least a chance for individual players to earn recognition through the Pro Bowl Games. Instead, the Vikings were completely shut out.
No End-of-Season Fun for Minnesota Vikings
The Pro Bowl is hardly a marquee event anymore. The quality of play has diminished to the point that an actual football game isn’t even played. Still, anything the NFL touches prints money, and the current format features a series of mini-games. Even so, until players begin opting out en masse, the Pro Bowl selections still carry meaning, and the Vikings were left out entirely.
No Vikings players were named to the Pro Bowl today. Not a shock given injuries/record but still an exclamation point for a team that spent nearly $350 million assembling its roster. Third time in club history without a Pro Bowl player named to the initial roster (1983, 2014).

It’s astonishing that such a significant free-agent spending spree failed to produce a single Pro Bowl-caliber performer. The Minnesota Vikings join the New York Jets (3-12) and New Orleans Saints (5-10) as the only teams without a Pro Bowl selection. Even the two-win Giants and Raiders managed to land at least one player.
Perhaps the most glaring was kicker Will Reichard. Dallas’ Brandon Aubrey made the cut, yet Reichard outkicked him in Minnesota’s win over the Cowboys. Reichard has missed just two field goals all season and drilled one from 62 yards.
Reichard and his fellow specialists also delivered a banger of a hype video, adding insult to injury.
Singing? Not their speciality.

There’s also a strong case that Jalen Redmond deserved consideration. He has gone from a rotational piece to a legitimate defensive line standout, recording six sacks this season. Producing that kind of pressure from the interior is no small feat.
The Pro Bowl Games will take place on Tuesday, February 3. The flag football matchup is the marquee event and kicks off at 7p.m. CT.
