Mike Zimmer Expects Vikings to Trade Into 2nd Round Tonight

On Friday night in the 2nd and 3rd rounds of the NFL Draft, Rick Spielman and the Minnesota Vikings will look to capitalize on the momentum created from last night’s impressive first round showing. They’ll enter without any picks in the 2nd round but they do hold (4) 3rd’s and (3) 4th rounders. That’s enough ammo to land any pick in the second round, while still hanging onto a few of those (7) picks mentioned in the last sentence.

If you think Rick Spielman won’t trade up, you’ll have to argue with Mike Zimmer, who clearly believes the Vikings will use that arsenal of mid-round draft picks to target someone in the 2nd round tonight. At least, that’s what he told Paul Allen on KFAN Radio this morning.

What’s on the agenda?

Nobody should be surprised that Rick Spielman’s expecting to use some of his SEVEN 3rd/4th round draft picks to move up. But, it’s always nice to have Mike Zimmer around to confirm such rumors. There are many holes left for Rick, Mike and Rob to fill and #1 should be a starting left guard because Dakota Dozier currently fills that void.

On top of that, they could very well go DE, CB, S, LB, WR and/or QB of the future.
