Main Reason Vikings Fired Kwesi Adofo-Mensah Revealed

The Minnesota Vikings front office has been in-flux since late January, when just hours after he was spotted representing the Vikings at the senior bowl, general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah was fired and replaced with an interim GM — longtime team exec, Rob Brzezinski.
While those inside TCO Performance Center seem perfectly content — specifically head coach Kevin O’Connell –with how things have operated since Rob took over, the Wilfs are determined to conduct a full-scale search for their next general manager as soon as the 2026 NFL Draft comes to an end.
Brzezinski will be considered for the new GM job, but for now, he refuses to answer questions about it. Instead, he continues to tell inquisitive reporters that his sole focus is on the draft, from April 23-25, which will look different than it did under Kwesi..

That makes sense, since he’s the only GM candidate whose main interview is a real life seven-round draft scenario that isn’t a simulation. That’s one opportunity Rob’s competition for Vikings GM will not have.
Thus, it’s not lost on Brzezinski that this is his chance to show the Wilfs that he is more than capable of running a smooth, organized and intentional draft that will leave the Minnesota Vikings more ripe for future success.
Besides, whether he ultimately lands the job or not, Rob’s best shot to leave a lasting impression on Vikings fans is by nailing the 2026 draft class like his predecessor never could.
Revealed: Why the MN Vikings fired Kwesi Adofo-Mensah (for real)
Remember, Adofo-Mensah’s draft record was so poor during his time leading the MN Vikings war room that most of his first two classes (2022 and 2023) are no longer with the organization. In fact, his drafting was so poor that most assumed it was his failures in April that got Kwesi canned.
But on Wednesday, MN Vikings beat writer and insider for The Athletic, Alec Lewis, revealed the real reason why Minnesota parted ways with the young exececutive they once trusted to lead them out of the Rick Spielman era.
According to Lewis, Kwesi Adofo-Mensah’s repeated draft failures did not get him ousted. Instead, he was fired because of his failures as an organizational leader and his “inability to meld the personnel staff’s vision with the coaching staff’s preferences”.
He used the word “leader” multiple times during the media session. It wasn’t accidental. Ding Adofo-Mensah for his drafts if you wish, but the primary reason for his dismissal was his inability to meld the personnel staff’s vision with the coaching staff’s preferences. Differences of opinion on specific players and situations furthered an early disconnect.

The Minnesota Vikings, under Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, loved to preach about how collaborative their process was, making life at TCO Performance Center sound like a hippie summer camp where everyone’s favorite activity was holding hands and singing Kumbaya by the campfire.
This offseason, we found out that whatever smores they were cooking… were burnt, and not in a good way. Not only were employees disappointed with the direction of the Vikings, under Kwesi, but there were clear riffs and divides between important members of the org.
Wilfs on the hunt for an elite organizational leader
Apparently, Brian Flores was not a fan of Minnesota’s former GM. Then again, Mike Pettine didn’t like Flores, which is why he left the team earlier in the offseason. And those are only the disputes that leaked out publicly. If Kwesi struggled with leadership that much, there is more behind the scenes we haven’t hear about.
Thus, it’s no surprise that the No. 1 character trait, the Vikings are looking for in their next general manager is elite leadership. According to Mark Wilf, one of the main traits of a great leader is his effective ability to communicate and get things done — plus a personality those under them can rally behind.
“Ownership is approaching the hiring cycle with a clear vision of the type of person it wants in charge. Analytics expertise is not a priority, and scouting chops aren’t a deal breaker.
What, then, are the Vikings after?
“A leader of the organization who can communicate and deliver,” Wilf said.

Will that be Rob Brzezinski? Only time will tell. But the Wilfs know what others around the NFL do. That they’ve built the Minnesota Vikings into an organization that players, coaches and executives want to be a part of.
Maybe they land on Rob, in the end. But because the Vikings’ GM job is so highly-coveted, with likely dozens of very smart, capable people jockeying for their chance to interview, the Wilfs would be doing fans a disservice if they didn’t investigate all possible options.
