JJ McCarthy Pushing Vikings to Draft Former Teammate

This offseason the Minnesota Vikings have plenty of holes to fill, a process that really got started this week down in Indianapolis at the NFL scouting combine.
One such spot for the Vikings to consider in later rounds come April may be at fullback, after CJ Ham decided to hang up his cleats after the 2025 season.
Should the Vikings decide that they are going to backfill the role via the draft, J.J. McCarthy apparently has thoughts as to who they should target.
Max Bredeson wants to play for MN Vikings
Max Bredeson was classified as a tight end at Michigan but he mostly operated as a fullback. And during the early part of his collegiate career in Ann Arbor, Brendon won a National Championship with McCarthy, which is why the third-year QB is pushing the Vikings to draft his former teammate this spring.

What exact pull McCarthy has after flopping as a draft prospect remains to be seen, but he can at least vouch for his former teammate. Bredeson played in 54 games while catching just 12 passes for 132 yards. He never recorded a rushing attempt.
In high school, Bredeson played quarterback and moved to the fullback position in college. That change clearly shows his athleticism and he has drawn interest from multiple teams during the NFL Combine.
Ranked as the best fullback in this class, it is expected that Bredeson will be taken in the late rounds. His brother, Ben, is a guard for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Max knows a thing or two about blocking as well, and his 85.2 grade from Pro Football Focus paces all offensive skill position players.

Kevin O’Connell has certainly not leaned heavily into the running game since taking over as the Minnesota Vikings head coach. He is however, one of a few teams that has utilized a fullback. With Ham gone, it’s possible that Minnesota abandons that thought process.
If they want to take him, one of their four picks in the 6th and 7th round could do the trick. It’s also entirely possible he sticks in Minnesota longer than former teammate J.J. McCarthy does.
