Minnesota Vikings Ravaged by Injuries Yet Again

The Minnesota Vikings returned home on Sunday night for a second-straight primetime matchup. This one went about as good as the last, without the spectacular late-game comeback.
J.J. McCarthy continues to look more lost than found in Kevin O’Connell’s offense. The availability of talent around him is also continually waning.
Last week each injury report brought more bad news. Following Sunday’s game against the Falcons, the TCO Performance Center may actually just turn into an infirmary.
Injuries piling up for MN Vikings in a bad way
While the initial injury report brought significantly more doom and gloom than the final one, Minnesota was still without key starters. Andrew Van Ginkel and Jeff Okudah joined Christian Darrisaw and Harrison Smith on the sidelines. Of course, that group missing also includes both Ty Chandler and Blake Cashman who are on injured reserve.
By the time the game ended on Sunday night, O’Connell’s team had added even more key players to the growing list of unavailable talent.
Vikings HC Kevin O’Connell says C Ryan Kelly has a concussion. Justin Skule has a concussion. Jonathan Greenard had oblique injury. Aaron Jones will be evaluated for a hamstring. Gabe Murphy’s MCL will be evaluated.

Last week center Ryan Kelly spent time in the medical tent having his toe looked at. He never actually missed action though. The concussion knocked him out of this contest and brought last year’s seventh round pick Michael Jurgens into action for the first time.
It was already apparent last week that veteran Justin Skule was a problem at left tackle. Filling in for Darrisaw again, he too was knocked out. Greenard went down with his oblique injury, but did gut through the pain and was back on the field.
Aaron Jones, who has had the injury bug follow him throughout his career, finished with just five carries for 23 yards before departing with the hamstring injury. That gave way to more Jordan Mason run, but it could necessitate the evergreen transaction involving Cam Akers.
Not looking good for Gabe Murphy. Lots of Vikings players looking pretty distraught.

Edge rusher Gabe Murphy was elevated to help fill depth with Van Ginkel sidelined. He was evaluated on the field and needed to be helped off. It wouldn’t be shocking if his MCL injury is serious in nature.

To say that the Minnesota Vikings are walking wounded would be putting it lightly. The offensive line looked atrocious on Sunday night, but it was also decimated by injury. The franchise spent significant money up front this offseason, but also has been banking on their ability to keep players healthy.
This was just one loss, and things are correctable, but it’s going to get increasingly difficult to overcame this level of injury on a weekly basis.
