Superstar Defender Traded to Vikings Arch Rival

The Minnesota Vikings have set their 53-man roster. They cut a boatload of players to get into compliance. Then they made a big trade to acquire Adam Thielen from Carolina. It’s not as though they need Micah Parsons with the front seven they already employ, but it couldn’t have hurt.

Unfortunately the superstar defender, once the Dallas Cowboys started taking calls, has already been dealt. Worse is that he’ll play for the Green Bay Packers.

Green Bay Packers acquire Micah Parsons

At 1:54 pm ESPN insider Adam Schefter reported that teams had begun calling the Dallas Cowboys about Micah Parsons. At 4pm, just two hours later, he had been traded to the Green Bay Packers.

The deal came together quickly. In fact, with options at cornerback looking slim for Minnesota, I even opined that Parsons playing close to the ball may help alleviate pressure. He certainly would have cost the Vikings on both the dollars and draft front. Still, few players in the league possess his level of talent.

Understandably the Green Bay Packers are aware of that reality too. Not only did they deal a pair of first round picks, and Kenny Clark, but they are paying Parsons $188 million over the next four years.

The new deal, which Cowboys owner Jerry Jones couldn’t come to grips with, makes Parsons the highest paid non-quarterback across the NFL. His $47 million is a whopping figure, and he’ll need to be every bit as special now for a Packers team looking to go for it.

Although Schefter was the one to officially break the news, it seems as though Dr. Feelgood had quite the inside information on Wednesday night. “The breast enhancement community is rather close knit” is not something I had on my bingo card as a breaking news source, but this doctor had everything right in front of the headlights.

Minnesota Vikings to test new-look Packers defense

There’s no denying that Micah Parsons is one of the best players in the NFL at the moment. He is an absolute menace on the field, and the former 12th overall pick already has 52.5 sacks just four seasons into his career.

Green Bay is shifting focus from the interior to the edge rush by adding Parsons. Kenny Clark has been a standout defensive tackle for nine seasons with the Packers. He has 35 career sacks and is a three-time Pro Bowl selection.

If there’s a team equipped to handle what Parsons will throw at them, it might be Minnesota. The defensive front has looked like one of the best in the league. That group tests the revamped offensive line on a daily basis in practice. Parsons will look to find success against that unit.

The NFC North appears wide open, short of the Chicago Bears being a surprise. Green Bay clearly believes that Jordan Love can be worth the massive contract he was handed, rather than the mediocre quarterback he has shown to be. If they are right, then adding Parsons to the defense only pushes the Minnesota Vikings top rival closer to a ring.
