The 2026 NFL offseason is closer to the end, at this point, than it is the beginning. Free agency opened up nearly two months ago and the draft is two weeks in the rearview mirror.

Outside of a free agency signing here and there, or a trade, it’s expected to be pretty quiet between now and July, when we start creeping up on training camp.

Of course, nobody knows who exactly would have the authority to pull the trigger on a trade or sign off on any free agency signing inside of TCO Performance Center right now, anyway.

That person would have been Rob Brzezinski as recently as last week. But now, he is officially considered a candidate for the Minnesota Vikings GM job, and NOT receiving any special priority during the process, according to reports.

Minnesota Vikings GM interview revealed – Terrance Gray

While the Wilfs seem in less of a hurry to find their new GM with every week that goes by, we did finally get our first publicly reported interview request Wednesday morning, via Tom Pelissero (NFL Network).

The lucky candidate — Buffalo assistant GM, Terrance Gray, who’s been with the Bills since 2017. Previously, he had spent 11 years with the Minnesota Vikings, from 2006-2016.

Before he worked for the Vikings, Gray — a former college quarterback at Oregon State — started his NFL executive journey with the Kansas City Chiefs, where he worked from 2003-2005.

Terrance Gray was only promoted to assistant GM, by the Bills, this time last offseason, after he had been a finalist for multiple interview processes earlier in the offseason.

Armed with 20 years of experience in NFL front offices, Gray is also part of the league’s “NFL Accelerator Program”, which was established in 2022, as an extension to the Rooney Rule. Both are in place to incentivize teams to hire/promote minority coaches and executives.

What is taking the Wilfs so long to hire new GM

The further we get along in this GM hiring process… the more stretched out it seemingly gets. Kwesi Adofo-Mensah was fired back at the end of January. The Wilfs pushed back the hiring process until after the draft, but promised an expeditious end, come May.

Now here we are, in the second week of May, and the Minnesota Vikings are just now bringing in search firms and identifying candidates. So we certainly aren’t days away from a new hire. It will definitely be weeks before that happens, maybe more?

Meanwhile, who is running the front office? It doesn’t make sense to have Rob Brzezinski signing or trading players while the MN Vikings decide if he will be the next general manager.

What if he doesn’t get the job? Will he stay or not, and how will that affect his decision-making in the interim? I don’t know if those questions can realistically be answered, which is why you’d think the Wilfs would be in a bigger hurry to get this hire done.

But they aren’t… so we will now wait for more candidates to be uncovered, interviews to be had and eventually (we think) a new front office head being named. Just don’t hold your breath, because it might be a while.
