Former Packer Calls Vikings “a Real Super Bowl Contender”… if Spielman Can Nail Another Draft
The Viking/Packer rivalry isnโt just for the fans. Players that have lived it tend to feed off that hate too. It’s a hatred that can even bleed into life off the field, as well. Former Packers WR James Jones is someone who is very familiar with the rivalry and what it means to both the fans and players.
Now, Jones is an analyst for NFL.com. They recently did a bit where they had some of their personalities state which team they believe is under the most pressure to nail the upcoming 2020 NFL Draft. James chose the Vikings… but with an interesting caveat.

Vikings have legit shot at being a contender:
The Minnesota Vikings have made some postseason runs over the last half-decade and always seem to have a talented roster. With 12 picks in this year’s draft, including Nos. 22 (from the Bills in the Stefon Diggs trade) and 25, they should be able to continue that trend. If Rick Spielman, who’s drafted 16 Pro Bowlers in 14 seasons as GM, can nail this draft — and it pains me to say this — the Vikings have a shot at being a real Super Bowl contender.

In his excerpt, Jones says what I already wrote about Spielman, Zimmer and the current Minnesota Vikings, as we know them. If they nail this draft, they are legitimate Super Bowl contenders. If not…. well, let’s not discuss that today.
The draft is obviously important for every team, but the Vikings go into it with both a Head Coach and a GM who are in the final year of their deals. That definitely intensifies the sense of urgency ahead of next Thursday.
With TWO picks in round 1, FIVE in the first 3 rounds and TWELVE total… the pressure is on. With great risk though, comes great reward. According to former Green Bay Packer James Jones (even though it “pains him” to say it” that reward is a legit shot at the Lombardi.
So, let’s go Rick. This is your Super Bowl. Go win one for the good guys.
