Brian Flores is back as the Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator. That seemed to be up in the air for a bit, but after Kwesi Adofo-Mensah was fired, B-Flo signed a lucrative extension to remain with the Vikings.

While we wait for the Vikings to name a new GM and Flores gets his defense ready for another grueling NFL season, his lawyers have been busy dealing with his legal battle against the league, which has been working its way through the legal process since since shortly after he was fired as Miami Dolphins head coach.

Despite multiple interviews for head coaching positions since joining the Vikings, Flores has yet to get a real look, since he first sued the league nearly a handful of years ago, where he accuses multiple teams of racist hiring practices and the NFL of a rigged arbitration process. And every time his case sees a courtroom or judge, Flores wins.

Brian Flores defeats the NFL in court yet again

That win streak in court continued this week when news broke that the Supreme Court has decided they will NOT intervene in his recently expanded lawsuit against the NFL, meaning the league will not be able to steer it back inot arbitration like they had hoped. Both Steve Wilks and Ray Horton have joined Flores’ cause in the lawsuit.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday refused to intervene in a discrimination lawsuit led by former Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores against the NFL, allowing the case to proceed toward trial.

The justices rebuffed an appeal from the league, which wanted the case handled through its arbitration process rather than open court in New York. Justice Brett Kavanaugh dissented from the decision not to hear the case.

Flores, who’s Black, sued the league and three teams in February 2022, alleging the league was “rife with racism” regarding its hiring practices when it comes to Black coaches. He was later joined in the lawsuit by fellow Black coaches Steve Wilks and Ray Horton.

The MN Vikings defensive coordinator was Miami’s head coach from 2019 through 2021. He compiled a 24-25 record in 49 games, before he was shown the door. He then made a stop in Pittsburgh, as a special assistant, before eventually being hired by the Vikings

What’s next for MN Vikings DC?

As long as he is still at war with the league, it’s unlikely the Minnesota Vikings will lose him to a head coaching job, which is probably why they gave him such a nice extension this offseason. The plan is for him to be here for a while.

While the circumstances for why he’s here aren’t ideal, head coach Kevin O’Connell and the Minnesota Vikings will take Brian Flores on their sideline and in charge of the defense any way they can get it.

Flores and his representation are obviously thrilled with the latest Supreme Court ruling.

“The NFL must now accept that its commissioner cannot be the arbitrator over discrimination claims against the league and its teams. We look forward to litigating these claims in court.”
