Bill Belichick to the Minnesota Vikings? Mike Florio Suggests Wilfs Could Have Future Interest
With the standard for coaches so high in the NFL, Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell could be on the hot seat if the team struggles in 2024, and one league insider believes the idea of replacing him with Bill Belichick next year would appeal to the team’s owner.
Kevin O’Connell deserves a lot of credit for the job he has been able to do over his first two seasons, as the head coach of the Vikings. In year one, he led the team to 13 wins and an NFC North division title. And then this past season, he was able to keep them in the hunt for a playoff spot until the final weeks of the season, despite being without starting QB Kirk Cousins and superstar receiver Justin Jefferson for much of it.

However, if coach firings around the league the last few years have taught us anything, it’s that the standard for NFL coaches and front office executives are extremely high and team owners rarely hesitate to out entire regimes, when they can’t deliver consistent winning results. Especially if there is a replacement option available that might be too hard to pass up.
Earlier this month, the New England Patriots and arguable they greatest head coach of all time, Bill Belichick, decided to end their relationship after 24 unforgettable seasons. While it now appears unlikely the 71-year-old legend will land a job this offseason, the six-time Super Bowl winner probably won’t stay unemployed for long.
Minnesota Vikings owner Zygi Wilf was a huge New York Giants fan growing up
On Sunday, Pro Football Talk founder Mike Florio took a look at organizations around the league that could realistically have openings in 2025 and might also make sense as landing spots for the iconic head coach. One team on his list was the Minnesota Vikings. Florio makes an interesting case for why Belichick could join his favorite football team, not this offseason, but next.
“The Minnesota Vikings are [on the list] for a very simple reason. Owner Zygi Wilf was a huge Giants fan before buying the Vikings. It’s not crazy to envision Zygi and Mark Wilf becoming smitten with the idea of giving Belichick a chance to take the just-good-enough Vikings to the top of the mountain the franchise has been trying to climb for more than 50 years,” Florio wrote.

Belichick was the defensive coordinator for the New York Giants teams that won Super Bowls in 1986 and 1990 and Wilf is a native of New Jersey.
