Another Chapter for Adrian Peterson; Will it Be Boom, Bust, or Injury….

After being plagued by injuries at the running back position, including the loss of rookie RB Derrius Guice, the Washington Redskins have turned to a familiar face to add some depth:

Peterson, who played for the Vikings from 2007-2016, wowed Redskins coach – Jay Gruden – in a workout for Washington this weekend. The former Sooner runningback has had some history on what will now be his home turf. In 2011, Peterson tore his ACL and MCL during a win vs the Redskins. FedEx Field has a long and well-documented history of issues on its turf.  We won’t get into that here but let’s just say Peterson’s knee hasn’t been the only one to blow up in the cow pasture.

Now his knees his knees are tasked with holding up through the course of 8 games at FedEx. That is, of course, assuming he lasts the entire season. After signing with the Saints before the start of last season, Adrian had a chance to stick it to the Vikings in week 1 last year. However, He and Sean Peyton didn’t exactly see eye to eye over his usage in that 29-19 opening-week defeat, in which he totaled 18 yards on 6 carries.

Moving past all of this, Peterson could theoretically work out for Washington, as long as he’s not asked to catch the ball or pick up blitzes. With standout pass-catcher Chris Thompson on the roster, that portion will already be taken care of. When Peterson is in to block, Alex Smith better make sure he knows where he’s going with the ball quickly. All in all… it could work.
