Adrian Peterson Surprised with Vikings Ring of Honor Nod

Adrian Peterson, Minnesota Vikings

It has been a decade since Adrian Peterson put on football pads and a Minnesota Vikings uniform. He last stepped on a football field during the 2021 NFL season, and sits just one year shy of Hall of Fame eligibility, despite never officially retiring.

But last week, the Minnesota Vikings surprised AP, now 41-years-old, with an enshrinement of their own — into the organization’s “Ring of Honor”.

Minnesota Vikings induct Adrian Peterson to Ring of Honor

There was always an expectation that Peterson’s name and his number 28 would be added to the oval around U.S. Bank Stadium sooner than later, and now it’s official

To present Adrian Peterson with his ROH news, the MN Vikings invited him back to the facility for what he believed was a chat with young players and possibly Vikings Entertainment Network.

Of course, the team had different plans. Mid interview with Vikings staff writer Lindsey Young, legendary defensive lineman John Randle burst onto the set with to sweep AP away. Randle led Peterson to a curtain and when they pulled it back… I’ll let the video do the rest.

Head coach Kevin O’Connell was there to shake hands with the former legendary running back. Peterson was also able to gaze upon his plaque installed alongside the other Ring of Honor inductees. An official ceremony will take place during a 2026 Minnesota Vikings home game.

Owners Zygi and Mark Wilf both offered statements in the wake of Peterson’s significant honor.

Peterson’s MN Vikings impact lives on

Among the best running backs to ever play the game, Adrian Peterson is among the last of the first round selections at the position to live up to the hype. Taken 7th overall out of Oklahoma, the seven-time Pro Bowl selection, and four-time All-Pro, should waltz into the Hall of Fame as a first-ballot selection.

He was named league MVP in 2012, and finished with 14,918 career rushing yards (5th all time). He came just nine yards shy of breaking Eric Dickerson’s single-season rushing record (2,105 yards) in 2012, and scored a career 120 rushing touchdowns.

Peterson, despite his size, was dynamic as a receiver in limited run as well. He hauled in 305 passes for 2,474 yards and six touchdowns. Four different times he led the league in per-game rushing, including his Rookie of the Year winning season in 2007.

Heralded by fans in Vikings territory as Purple Jesus, any opportunity to celebrate the greatness of Peterson is something that Minnesotans will sign up for.
