MN Vikings Notify First 2026 Cap Casualties

The Minnesota Vikings are wrapping up at the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis. That means, after months of talking/thinking about what the 2026 roster will look like, it’s almost time for Rob Brzezinski, Kevin O’Connell and Brian Flores to actually put the pieces together.
All eyes are on the Vikings’ plan at quarterback for 2026 and beyond. But while we were all distracted by the whirlwind of QB combine rumors Sunday morning, we finally got our first real glimpse into the MN Vikings roster plans for next season.
Minnesota Vikings notify Aaron Jones and Javon Hargrave of cut plans
According to Adam Schefter (ESPN), DT Javon Hargrave and RB Aaron Jones have both been notified that — barring a trade materializing between now and the start of NFL free agency on March 11 — both veterans will be released.
Sources: Vikings have informed running back Aaron Jones and defensive tackle Javon Hargrave that, barring a trade, they will be released at the start of the league year this month.

Aaron Jones played in only 12 games last season, taking 132 carries for 548 (4.2 YPC) yards and 2 touchdowns, while also grabbing 28 receptions for 199 yards and one more touchdown.
Over on defense, Javon Hargrave underwhelmed as one of Minnesota’s key signings last offseason. In 16 games, Hargrave recorded 52 total tackles (18 solo), 3.5 sacks, 4 TFL, and 6 QB Hits. He also forced one fumble and recovering another. But overall, he wasn’t worth the $15 million per season he signed for.
If post-dated for June 1, cutting Jones ($11M) and Hargrave ($7.75M) will save the Minnesota Vikings approximately $18.75 million total for 2026.
