Sid Hartman Still Breaking the Biggest Stories – Taylor: Wiggins Getting Extension

First thing is first: Sid broke big news last night like he has done forever (Read Sid’s Piece and come back to pay him homage): Wiggins is getting extended which means he is NOT going to Cleveland.

That’s right, Sid Hartman is still breaking the biggest news in Minnesota, at 97 years old. Let’s take a minute to appreciate the GREATEST Minnesota sports media legend of all time.

As someone who is new to this writing game, Sid Hartman is a mythical figure. He has been writing for the StarTribune since 1945. 1945! Think about that….

Brandon Warne (@Brandon_Warne) is a local writer who covers the Twins’ beat for ZoneCoverage.com. He is hosting a “Read It All” Day on Twitter, August 1. He wants anyone and everyone, who has authored something, to submit their favorite written piece for him to read, and spread to his Twitter Followers. It is a pretty cool idea in a time where writing seems to be on the decline:

I wonder if Sid will submit his favorite piece. What would it be? Think of all the great articles he has written and all the great moments he has witnessed.

Would he pick a piece from the Gopher Football Teams in the 30’s-40’s and 60’s? You know, back when they were the best thing in College Football? There was a time, my millennial comrades…

What about the Vikings Teams that dominated the early NFL, and went to 4 Super Bowls in the 70’s, but couldn’t close the deal?

The Twins’ World Series Titles in ’87 and ’91?

The ’97 Gopher Basketball Team and the Final 4 Final 3.

What about the 1998 Vikings’ Season?

Favre in 2009?

Sorry if I missed your favorite Minnesota sports moment but that is part of my point. Sid has been around for ALL the biggest memories that just about ANY Minnesota Sports Fan has seen. I want to see what he sees as his best article.

Would he pick one of these iconic moments? What would he pick? Why would he pick it?

So, PLEASE Sid. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE submit something to Brandon on Tuesday so we can all see what you call your best work.

Now, moving onto what was in the Sunday Morning Star Tribune today.

Sid Hartman sat down with the owner of the StarTribune recently (conveniently the owner of the Timberwolves too).

Glen Taylor affirmed his affection for Andrew Wiggins and assured his extension is imminent. He also assured that Wiggins WILL AND DESERVES the max extension of close to $150 Million over 5 years. As most know, if Wiggins gets extended, it is VERY VERY VERY unlikely that the Wolves will trade him.

With all the rumors swirling about Kyrie coming to MN, it sure seems like Wiggins won’t be part of the deal that is offered. Without Wiggins, I don’t know what kind of offer the Wolves really have.

Whether they can fleece the Cavaliers and get Kyrie here, without Wiggins being a part of the returning package, is an argument for another article on another day.

What seems to be clear is this: Wiggins is going to be a Timberwolf for the next 6 years.

If you didn’t click on Sid’s article at the top of the page, here it is again.

Thanks for all you have done, Sid. Keep up the good work. I hope you are able to participate in “Read it All” Day.
