MN Twins Showing Interest in Top Remaining Reliever

We’ve seen Minnesota Twins president Derek Falvey do a little bit of moving and grooving with the roster. But with just a month remaining before Spring Training, there is still one area the front office has largely neglected, to this point.

The bullpen.

The context is more worrisome, being Minnesota entered this offseason knowing that the relief core was the team’s biggest weakness, after Falvey & Co. dealt most of the Twins bullpen away last July, leading up to the 2025 MLB Trade deadline. How about more bad news for the 2026 bullpen?

Seranthony Dominguez a potential Twins target

Most of the best free agent relievers have already signed elsewhere, leaving Minnesota to shop in the leftover pile, per usual. There are a few intriguing options left, however, and according to Darren Wolfson (KSTP) the Twins have recently inquired on one of them, righty reliever, Seranthony Dominguez.

The #MNTwins briefly inquired about Seranthony Dominguez last month. Just took a look at remaining free agent relievers and he’s as intriguing as any, for me. Maybe the Twins eventually circle back and ramp up interest.

Across 2025 as a whole, Dominguez posted a 3.16 ERA (3.47 FIP) in 62 2/3 innings. His 5.2 BB/9 in 2025 needs to be fixed, but the 31-year-old’s career-high 11.3 K/9 last season is worth working with.

Dominguez — who has MLB closing experience (40 saves) — still sits upper-90’s with his fastball, which he exclusively pairs with a slider. Dominguez made a total of $8 million in 2025, between two different organizations.

He began the season in Baltimore, before he was traded for the second straight season, this time to the Toronto Blue Jays. Finally a free agent this offseason, the Minnesota Twins could be the perfect fit for Dominguez. That is, if waiting out the market works in Falvey’s favor, when it comes to Dominguez’ price and term.

State of the Minnesota Twins bullpen

Right now, the MN Twins’ payroll still projects below $100 million. Falvey and new face of ownership, Tom Pohlad, burst out of Winter Meetings with plans to compete in 2026, but (surprise) they have yet to put any money where their mouths are.

The only holdovers from the Minnesota Twins depleted bullpen last year are Cole Sands, Justin Topa, and Kody Funderburk. From there, Falvey and his new manager, Derek Shelton, will be tasked with piecing together the rest of the group.

Eric Orze was added from the Tampa Bay Rays in a 40-man roster shuffle recently. The Twins also signed veteran Dan Altavilla to a minor league deal. Seranthony Dominguez would undoubtedly come in at the top of that group, a role that has to be intriguing for a mid-tier reliever on the free agency market.

Minnesota is also expected to convert some of their struggling young starters. Names to watch out for, when it comes to that, include Marco Raya, David Festa, Travis Adams and Pierson Ohl.
