Clubhouse Vibes are Improving but Twins Clearly Feel the Heat

The Minnesota Twins have recently found themselves stuck in the mud when it comes to playing competitive baseball. They brought back an unofficial mascot earlier this week and things have started to take a positive turn. That doesn’t mean Rocco Baldelli’s club is out of the woods yet.

Urgency is key word for Minnesota Twins

With just a handful of games left for the Minnesota Twins before the postseason, wins are as important as ever. It remains unlikely that the American League Central Division title can be defended. If the Twins want to fend off the wild card competition they’ll need to keep the pedal down. The Athletic’s Aaron Gleeman highlights that the guys in the clubhouse are well aware.

“There’s urgency. We’ve got to find ways to win any way possible. (Wednesday) it meant going to the bullpen and going to them early. And we had guys (warming) up earlier than that. They were getting hot in case we needed them…There’s going to be urgency all the way through this. And we have to win.”

“It’s exciting. I think it’s great for everyone because it’s a glimmer of hope, no matter how we were feeling or what was going on in the past.”

Minnesota absolutely knows the situation they have been in of late. Losing games in droves over the past handful of weeks has been understandably frustrating. Royce Lewis has been stuck in a rut and has had to work through positioning changes as well. An ability to stack wins is something that calms the frustrations. In that regard, the Twins are trending up.

After dropping the first game to the Los Angeles Angels the Minnesota Twins won the series. That’s what they should be doing against bad teams. It must continue over the weekend.

Minnesota Twins must finish strong

Just 16 games remain in the regular season for the Minnesota Twins. The Cincinnati Reds series over the weekend is the second-to-last opportunity at a team with a record below .500. Elly De La Cruz has been incredible in his rookie year, but they remain a beatable club while not stooping to doormat level. Then it gets serious.

A road series against the Guardians and Boston Red Sox could determine the ultimate outcome for Minnesota. The Twins have not fared well against Cleveland this season, and Boston is trying to chase them down in the wild card race. Byron Buxton is back on Friday, and Carlos Correa should return soon. The team needs to get healthy and get back to winning.

Minnesota will likely head out on the road for any postseason series. That isn’t a death sentence, and it gets infinitely more plausible they hold their own if playing good baseball going into it. The time to right the ship is running out, but capitalizing on the current momentum is a must.

The Twins are certainly happy with the way their last two games have gone, but now isn’t the time to back down.
