Arguably, the best development for the Minnesota Twins this offseason would be the sale of the team. The Pohlad family has announced their intention to move on, and the fanbase has largely expressed a desire to see them go.

There have been conflicting reports about the timeline for the sale of the Minnesota Twins. Initially, the price point was considered a major hurdle, but recent suggestions indicated that a deal could be finalized before Opening Day. Now, another perspective on the situation has emerged.

Minnesota Twins sale could still take time

Ultimately, the sale of the Twins may not gain traction until the last moment. There are interested buyers, and ownership is keen to push towards a sale. However, until the paperwork begins, it remains speculative. Darren “Doogie” Wolfson shared his perspective on Skor North this week.

“Did speak with somebody at the Twins on Wednesday. This person did say, hey, not necessarily denying those quotes. Truly need to see it to believe it, unless the Pohlad’s are willing to take a lesser price. The buzz has been, they’ve been looking for north of what the Orioles sold for a year ago. Somewhere in the vicinity of $1.7 billion. North of that even. Now if they’re willing to settle for $1.4 billion, something in that ballpark, ok. Maybe we will have some news in the next ten weeks.

The reality is that time is going to be on the side of the Twins current ownership group. The Pohlad’s have always run this franchise as a business, and they aren’t looking to stop doing that now. Which means they’ll seek to bleed every dollar out of a potential sale.

Negotiations take time to ramp up, and no buyer is coming in with their best and final offer right out of the gate. If the Pohlad family truly believes they can beat the sale of the Orioles, then they’ll need vast interest and competing offers. It would not make sense to shut down the process early.

Of course this is unfortunate news for the fanbase. Ownership isn’t willing to invest in the Minnesota Twins roster during 2025, and they dialed back in 2024. Rocco Baldelli’s roster can still compete, but there isn’t going to be an influx of new talent to help him.

Ultimately the hope should be that the Pohlad’s are on their way out as soon as possible. They have long been a scourge among ownership groups across the sport, and are tops for the worst in the state.
