There have been few players across baseball that have made a greater per-game impact this season than Royce Lewis. Out with an adductor strain since early July, he’s ready to make an impact down the stretch.

Minnesota Twins activate Royce Lewis

Royce Lewis spent 24 days on the injured list for his latest malady. The Minnesota Twins have been without both Lewis and Carlos Correa on the left side of the infield. That necessitated the promotion of Brooks Lee, and Edouard Julien was called upon to make a big league return as well. Lewis went 1-for-6 with a double and a walk across two rehab games.

After being removed from a game against the Detroit Tigers on July 2, Lewis makes his return to the lineup against the same foe. This time the Twins are on the road at Comerica Park, but Lewis will look to pick up where he left off. In just 24 games this season, the Twins young star has hit 10 home runs and owns a 1.039 OPS. Rocco Baldelli and the Minnesota training staff continue to seek ways for Lewis to remain on the field as he is invaluable to their divisional chances.

Royce Lewis imperative to Minnesota Twins chances

Lewis suffered a quad injury on Opening Day and missed substantial time. Due to that stint on the injured list, he has played in just one game against Detroit this season. Lewis doubled in two at bats, and hasn’t factored into Minnesota’s performance against the divisional foe. Likely to play in two of the three games this weekend, he can make up for lost time.

Minnesota is currently 4.5 games behind the Cleveland Guardians. The Twins have played the Detroit Tigers to an even 5-5 record this season, having outscored A.J. Hinch’s club by a single run. With the schedule change that now aligns divisional matchups across just 13 games, this is the final time Minnesota and Detroit will square off this season. The Twins are coming off a series win over the Philadelphia Phillies, while the Tigers split with Cleveland.

If Lewis can remain healthy the rest of the way, his production will go a long way to reclaiming the division lead. Jair Camargo was optioned back to Triple-A as a corresponding roster move. Another shuffled should be expected in the coming days with Jose Miranda returning. That move will likely force Julien back to Triple-A, as he has failed to show an improved process in his brief return.
