Minnesota Twins Get More Tough News on Mick Abel

The Minnesota Twins pitching staff has been ravaged by injuries all season, and just on when we thought things were starting to get better on that front, Mick Abel suffered yet another setback, a crushing blow for both the 24-year-old righty and the team he pitches for.
Mick Abel needs elbow surgery
The news didn’t get much better Wednesday, when we got the latest update on Abel’s right elbow injury. Fortunately, it is not a torn UCL and doesn’t require standard surgery. Mick does require an arthroscopic procedure, though.

The Twins don’t expect to have a timeline on Mick Abel’s return until after his surgery is complete. However, online searches suggest two to three months. Again, that is a rough estimate without much knowledge on exactly what is wrong with Abel’s elbow.
It’s an unfortunate set of circumstances for the main piece that came back from Philly, in last summer’s trade of Jhoan Duran. In 20.1 innings pitched with the Minnesota Twins this season, Abel posted a 3.98 ERA, 2.76 FIP and 111 ERA+.
Worse yet, he was just starting to find his groove when he went on the IL, allowing 0 runs on 8 hits in his final 13 innings pitched. Until we hear more, the hope is that Abel will be able to return before the 2026 season is over.
