Marwin Gonzalez Just Became First Player to Apologize for Cheating While with Astros
Marwin Gonzalez benefited more from trash can banging, than any other Houston Astros teammate during his time there, where bangs can be heard in 18.9% of his at-bats through 58 tracked games in 2017. He was the trash can banging king.
During that time, he boosted his average up to .300, while posting 90 RBI and hitting 23 home runs; all while striking out a career-low 99 times. He didn’t get anywhere near those numbers before that season and he hasn’t touched them, since.
By the way, I’m not going to hold this against Marwin Gonzalez. Pull the banners from Houston… beyond that, I’m not punishing players. Just bring Pete Rose back to baseball and put Barry Bonds in the Hall of Fame.
But, I have to give Marwin Gonzalez a little bit of credit because he at least addressed the banging and apologized for what happened, compared to his old teammates, who shrugged off questions with wry smiles a couple of weeks ago.
I don’t feel bad for Gonzalez and I don’t really accept his apology. He just plays for my favorite baseball team now and I don’t expect him to punish himself.
He had more of a ballsack in this interview than any of his previous teammates…. but he also won a World Series MVP off of the whole scandal.
Marwin Gonzalez’s opening statement to the media:

“I’m remorseful for everything that happened in 2017, for everything that we did as a group, and for the players that were affected directly by us doing this … That’s why I feel more regret and that’s why I’m remorseful.” pic.twitter.com/G35XwK2xkB
Hey, the Houston Astros CHEATED…..?
