Deadline Day: What We Know, What the Twins Still Need

WE MADE IT TO THE MLB TRADE DEADLINE!
Teams have until 3:00 PM CT today, to acquire players that can be part of their postseason roster. Or to start their rebuild. Or whatever the hell the Mets are doing.
Main point: IT’S TIME TO GET SOMETHING DONE!

Here is what we learned last night:
- Sergio Romo made his Twins debut last night, and looked pretty damn good.
- Trevor Bauer was jettisoned to Cincinnati in a bizarre yet good 3 team trade that sent Yasiel Puig to Cleveland. If only he wouldn’t have launched that baseball.
- Cleveland’s willingness to deal Bauer means they are at least semi-confident that Corey Kluber will return at some point soon.
- Ken Giles is dealing with elbow issues, and that should be a major concern.

With T-minus 24.5 hours until the trade deadline, word from 1 Twins Way is nothing is imminent, but many conversations are ongoing. They certainly are trying. But I get it that the fanbase fully expects more, rightfully so. #MNTwins

Here are some things to consider today as the deadline draws near:
- Detroit, Kansas City, and Chicago for some reason are hesitant to deal within the division. This means names like Shane Greene and Ian Kennedy may be less likely to be acquired.
- The Mets are still stupid. Their price tag for Noah Syndergaard is still stupid. We aren’t giving up Byron Buxton. Not now. Not ever.
- Zack Greinke‘s contract is actually worse than it looks, thanks to a lot of defferred money. Why is defferred money bad? Again let’s check in with the Mets.
- The Giants keep winning, so Madison Bumgarner and Will Smith are probably off the table. Not only that but the Giants are looking to buy.

Here is what the Twins still need to address today:
At the very LEAST, the Twins should try like hell to add 2 bullpen arms. But that list is dwindling rapidly. If they are feeling adventurous a starter would be great as well.
My top targets:
Starters
Mike Minor
Robbie Ray
Relievers
Shane Greene
Ian Kennedy
Ken Giles
Felipe Vazquez

Keep an eye on things as we get closer, and hope that the Twins make a move. If not…well you know what to do.. and we are opening our new forums up for the occasion. Just like the rest of the content on MinnesotaSportsFan.com, our forums are free in cost and free in speech too:
