Byron Buxton Receives Cortisone Shot; Still Plans to Play in Field for Twins This Season
On Wednesday, the Minnesota Twins fell to the Tampa Bay rays 5-4, but the day wasn’t all bad. They saw their magic number shrink to 9, after the Cleveland Guardians lost to the San Francisco Giants, and more information on the plan for Byron Buxton’s immediate future came to light.
Byron Buxton Gets Cortisone Shot; Plans to Play in 2023
Twins manager, Rocco Baldelli told reporters today that Byron Buxton received a cortisone shot in his knee and the plan is to get him back in centerfield still this season.
Even as the season winds down, getting Byron Buxton back on the field remains a top priority for the Minnesota Twins. After normal rest and recovery tactics didn’t calm the inflammation in Buxton’s right knee, the club opted to give him a cortisone shot Sunday.
As uncertain as it seems, the Twins’ training staff at least believes Buxton will soon be in position to resume his rehab assignment at Triple-A St. Paul and then return to the Twins. When he’d return is unclear, but Twins athletic trainer Nick Paparesta said Wednesday the impression he has is Buxton will play again this season.

#MNTwins athletic trainer Nick Paparesta on Byron Buxton: "I'd love to tell you I have a crystal ball and can give you that answer, but my impression will be that he's going to play again this year and he'll be healthy and play next year, yes."

Obviously, there are positives and negatives to this development. GOOD: Byron Buxton may still take the outfield before the 2023 regular season is over on October 1. BAD: His knee is in such bad shape that he couldn’t handle one game in center field without it detailing his season.
I do not know what Byron has to do to fix his knee this offseason but his career is clearly on the line. Hopefully, this latest attempts at a cortisone shot takes properly and gives that knee enough artificial strength for Buck to help the Twins, come playoffs.
