Wait Just a Minute on Minnesota Timber-Wilfs

Reports circulated yesterday that the Minnesota Timberwolves were being put up for sale. Many began speculating as to who would be in consideration to buy the team. Reports surfaced all over that the Wilf Family (who already own the Vikings) were leaders in the clubhouse.

Tonight, that doesn’t appear to be the case. It’s now being reported that the Reign Group (helping to broker a deal for Glen Taylor) approached the Wilfs months ago, about purchasing the team. The two sides had initial discussions but no talks have taken place recently. This is much different that what was reported yesterday.

This latest development makes an interesting situation more mysterious. Hall of Famer, Kevin Garnett, is doing whatever it takes to put an investment group together. His group seems far away from being a legitimate candidates, though.

Whoever buys the team, will need to commit to keeping the Timberwolves in the Minnesota and must have roughly $1.3 billion to spend. It appears there are somewhere between 4-7 interested groups that currently meet these criteria. That’s what he told Darren Wolfson (KSTP) yesterday. Here’s the full interview.

The current front-runners are still unknown, but reports of the Wilfs being “seriously contenders” for purchasing the Minnesota Timberwolves were clearly overblown. Let’s see what tomorrow brings on this rollercoaster story.
