Report: NBA Teams View Discontent Minnesota Timberwolves Guard as Possible Trade Candidate
The Minnesota Timberwolves haven’t exactly had the start they were hoping for this season, sitting at 8-7. Fans are already questioning if trading Karl-Anthony Towns was the right call, especially since he’s having a career year with the Knicks so far.
In the trade, the Timberwolves brought in Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo, with DiVincenzo being the key piece that convinced the team to make the deal. However, his start has been far from ideal. DiVincenzo has struggled significantly, falling short of the expectations so far.
Donte DiVencenzo already on the Minnesota Timberwolves trade block..?
So far this season, Donte DiVincenzo has struggled to find his rhythm with the Timberwolves. Through his first 15 games, he’s shooting just 34.8% from the field and 32.4% from three, while averaging a disappointing 9.5 points per game.
Sure, there’s still plenty of time for him to get it together, but this rough start has definitely raised some eyebrows. In fact, one NBA insider has already suggested that Donte DiVincenzo might be shaping up to be a solid trade candidate.
According to Brett Siegel, an NBA insider for ClutchPoints, multiple teams around the league are reportedly viewing Donte DiVincenzo as a potential trade target.
Donte DiVincenzo is being viewed as a possible trade candidate for several contending teams around the league, sources said. While the Timberwolves value DiVincenzo’s skillset, the 27-year-old combo guard was not thrilled with the idea of coming off the bench after being traded.
For a second apron team like Minnesota, moving DiVincenzo could help create a little bit of flexibility and a path to moving out of the second apron next offseason. Right now, there are no indications that the Timberwolves will want to move their newly acquired guard.

It seems that Donte DiVincenzo has made it clear he doesn’t want to come off the bench, which makes sense after the career year he had last season. He averaged nearly 16 points per game and knocked down 40% of his threes. What’s interesting, though, is that other teams are keeping an eye on his situation so far this season, which could maybe present an opportunity for someone to get him at a discount.

Siegel points out that the Timberwolves haven’t even considered this yet since it’s still early in the season. With him adjusting to a new team, he definitely might just need some more time to find his rhythm. However, if he doesn’t get things going soon, he could become available by the trade deadline.
Donte DiVencenzo reunites with the Golden State Warriors..?
DiVincenzo has bounced around the league, playing for the Bucks, Kings, Warriors, and Knicks in his relatively short career. Siegel points out that one of his former teams, the Golden State Warriors, could be interested in bringing him back.
Donte DiVincenzo, Jordan Clarkson, Matisse Thybulle, and Pat Connaughton are worth mentioning in connection to the Dubs, seeing as they all make less than what Melton is earning this year. Other than Connaughton, none of these players are viewed as definite trade candidates for any team this season.
The Minnesota Timberwolves just acquired DiVincenzo in their blockbuster Karl-Anthony Towns trade with the New York Knicks, and head coach Chris Finch is very fond of the combo guard’s abilities on both ends of the court. The problem is that his role has fluctuated since arriving in Minnesota, and the Timberwolves are struggling at 8-7 overall. Should tensions continue to rise, various teams around the league will be monitoring DiVincenzo’s availability. He was a player the Warriors really wanted to keep before he signed a four-year deal with the Knicks in 2023.

It looks like the Warriors are really into DiVincenzo, and with their strong 11-3 start, they could definitely be looking to make moves at the trade deadline. Bringing him back to Golden State would make a lot of sense, especially with his connection to the team.
DiVincenzo’s performance is definitely something to watch over the next month or two as the Minnesota Timberwolves look to find their rhythm. If he can tap into his potential, it could make a big impact for the team. But, as always, only time will tell.
