Karl Towns Calls Out Anthony Edwards’ Poor Eating Habits
On Monday night, the Minnesota Timberwolves took an ugly loss vs a scrappy San Antonio Spurs team and fell to 2-2 on the young season. The final 115-106 score did not do the beat down any justice. In reality, the Wolves should’ve lost by 30.
Really, nobody played well. That includes budding superstar, Anthony Edwards, who after putting up 30 points and 11 rebounds the night before, scored just 9 points on 3/15 from the field vs the Spurs.
KAT Unhappy with Ant’s Diet
After the loss, Karl-Anthony Towns was asked about what he can do to help Ant avoid up and down games like what we saw on Sunday and Monday night. KAT immediately turned the conversation to Ant’s dietary habits (transcript below video).

“I know y’all think it’s funny when he’s up here talking about Popeyes and all that shi. That doesn’t make me happy to hear.”

“You know, maybe I can do a better job of teaching him how to take care of his body. You know, diet and everything. So, that’ll be on me. Umm, I know you all think it’s funny when he talks about Popeye’s and all that shit. That doesn’t make me happy to hear. We’re high-level athletes” — Karl-Anthony Towns (postgame video above)
Slow Down, Big Fella
So here’s the thing. I can appreciate where Karl-Anthony Towns’ head is at when answering this question. I too have written about how Anthony Edwards needs to “pro up” his eating habits if he’s going to reach his incredibly high basketball ceiling.
My job is to find storylines that are worth reading for visitors of MinnesotaSportsFan.com. KAT’s job is to be a great basketball player. Preferably, given his salary, he’s also expected to be a leader and good teammate. And when asked about Ant last night, he was neither of those things.
Calling out a teammate to media is rarely a showing of good leadership, especially when coming from a player who isn’t known as a great leader. Let’s be honest, Karl-Anthony Towns has plenty of his own flaws to worry about.
Fix your house before throwing stones at others’
Like crying all night to referees or tripping people whenever he shoots from deep. Both of which KAT refuses to admit are problems in his game. Accountability matters in leadership. Sometimes, the best thing a leader can do is to watch his own bobber. Be accountable for yourself and work on your own weaknesses before calling out others’.
Does Anthony Edwards need to eat better? Yes, but he is a 21-year-old kid who was raised on fried food. That’s an addiction just as strong as any other.
If KAT really wants to help Ant out, maybe he should start taking him out for dinner every night. Or use all those millions to hire a personal chef to make Edwards’ meals. Take initiative to help your teammate fix a problem. Don’t diet-shame him to media.
