Timberwolves Bring Back Fan Favorite Uniform; Tease Full Rebrand

The Minnesota Timberwolves are entering a new era, under new owners Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez. On the court, it doesn’t look like there will be a whole lot of change, after president of basketball operations Tim Connelly decided to mostly run things back this offseason, re-upping on Naz Reid and Julius Randle.
Off the court, however, Lore and A-Rod want to make bigger changes. They’ve announced a new ticket market app that will debut next season, but that is only the beginning. It’s well known how badly the new owners want to build a new arena in downtown Minneapolis, even if they have to finance it themselves.

But when they eventually find their new digs, the Wolves could look different. According to Evan Sidery (Forbes), the Minnesota Timberwolves are bringing back their black Garnett era uniforms, with pointed letters and mini pine tree outline. There’s also “loud buzz” over a full rebrand in the near future.

These beautiful black uniforms were the franchise’s first ever alternate jersey combination. They originally wore them from 1998-2008, before they were put into retirement.
They were dusted off again for a short time in 2017-18, as part of the league’s throwback alternate series. We don’t know how much we’ll see them next season, but I’m sure glad they’re back.
I'd like to thank Derrick Rose for choosing 90s throwback uniform night to drop that performance on us, the best uniforms the T-Wolves ever wore. pic.twitter.com/GlY1ohB8IM

There have been four rebrands in Minnesota Timberwolves history. They wore the “Old Shep” blue and white (w/light green outline) from their inception in 1989, through the 1995-96 season, before taking on a much bolder look, which included the black alternate uniforms pictured above.
They’ve had their current logo/uniform combination since 2016-17 and they are long overdue for a rebrand, because they haven’t been able to get things right since they they ditched the Garnett era jerseys back in 2008-09, shortly after trading him away.
