Timberwolves Add Veteran Forward as Roster Depth

The Minnesota Timberwolves are quickly approaching the start of their 2025-26 regular season. Anthony Edwards is looking to take the next step after being bounced in the Western Conference Finals each of the past two seasons.
President Tim Connelly put what seemed like the finishing touches on the roster a few weeks ago. That doesn’t mean they can’t add some talent on the fringes.
With preseason action a week away, Chris Finch has a new veteran forward looking to crack the roster. After a couple years out of the league, Alize Johnson is looking to land on his seventh different team.
Alize Johnson joins Minnesota Timberwolves
The Minnesota Timberwolves are running back a lot of the same roster from last season. Both Julius Randle and Naz Reid got new contracts. There were some moves made on the fringes as well. Now veteran forward Alize Johnson will look to compete for a roster spot.
There isn’t much room in the Timberwolves rotation for minutes to be carved out. Alize Johnson is going to have a chance to try though, and he’ll work with Minnesota during training camp.
Johnson last played in the NBA during the 2022-23 season. He spent just four games with the San Antonio Spurs. Across five years, Johnson has played in 76 games. He has averaged just 7.5 minutes per game and a total of 2.5 points per contest.
It shouldn’t be expected that Johnson will crack the regular season roster. Minnesota has Reid, Jaden McDaniels, Joe Ingles, and Leonard Miller all capable at the power forward position.
It’s possible that the Timberwolves further shakeup the roster at the trade deadline. For now they can kick off the season with a team that finished 49-33 a year ago.
Minnesota starts their preseason action on October 4 against the Nuggets in Denver. The regular season starts October 22nd in Portland against the Trailblazers.
