Anthony Edwards Shows Off His Superstar with 50-Piece in Timberwolves Comeback Win
It is impossible to watch the Minnesota Timberwolves on a regular basis, or even irregular basis, and not see the bonafide superstar that Anthony Edwards is blossoming into right before our eyes.
On Tuesday night, Ant took another step on that journey by dropping a 50-piece on the Washington Wizards on a night where, heading into the contest, he probably expected to be watching from the bench by the 3rd quarter.
In case you didn’t know, the Washington Wizards are the worst team in the NBA. Tonight’s loss vs the Wolves was their 65th of the season. But for about 2.5 quarters of basketball, that’s not how the night was shaping up.

Instead, the Wizards punched the Timberwolves in the mouth with about 7 hooks and 4 haymakers during the 1st quarter, as they tried for an early surprise knockout ON THE ROAD at a hostile Target Center. It got so bad at one point that Washington held a 22-7 lead, and before the period was over, it stretched all the way to 39-20.
But, the Wolves battled back and finally found their groove in the 3rd quarter. Well.. Anthony Edwards started to find his groove, that is. Yes, Nickeil Alexander-Walker (23 PTS, 5 REB, 4 AST, 2 STL, 2 BLK) was really good. So was Rudy Gobert (19 PTS, 16 REB, 4 BLK).

But when Ant decided to call game, that’s when the Wizards were screwed. If they played up on him, he drove past. If they tried to step back just a smidge, he rained three pointers on their heads. No matter what they tried, there was no answer for Anthony Edwards in the 2nd half. He just scored, and scored and scored… oh and he assisted in a few scores too.

By the time the dust settled, Ant finished with a career high 51 points, to go along with 6 rebounds and 7 assists. It was the first time Edwards has ever reached 50 points in an NBA game. And again, when Edwards goes off… it just looks different. Everything about the 22-year-old superstar just screams HIM.

In the end, the Minnesota Timberwolves took the 130-121 victory, a game that they could not afford to lose, if they want any realistic chance at winning the West. Now, the Wolves will play the Denver Nuggets tomorrow night, in a game that could decide who gets the No. 1 seed when they playoffs start next week.
