Twins get SWEPT by Yankees in New York:

The Twins went to New York this week and did exactly what we were all afraid of. They left licking their wounds after the Yankees kicked them out in grand fashion, on Wednesday, with a more-than-convincing victory over the Twins, 11-3.

I hate the Twins when they play the Yankees. They are an entirely different team and entirely different franchise…

It’s like a big brother/little brother thing.

They even got out to a 3-0 lead in the 3rd inning. And then that’s all they scored… As the Yankees pounded out run after run, the Twins did nothing the rest of the game.

Finally, the Twins are leaving New York. They will go to Detroit where they will take part in a 4-game series against the Tigers. They NEED to win the games coming up against the Tigers. There will be 7 of them to be exact. With only 10 games left total, the other 3 are against Cleveland, who might be the best team in baseball.

The Twins currently lead by one game in the race for the 2nd Wildcard. With the Angels yet to play tonight, the Twins will need all the wins they can get against a bad Detroit team.

Game Info: Detroit – 6:10 PM – FSN

Matchup: Adalberto Mejia (4-6, 4.62 ERA) vs Jordan Zimmerman (8-12, 6.18 ERA)

Sam Bradford Latest:

Will Sam Bradford play this weekend? He is hoping so:

“I would like to think that (the chances are) good, but I think a lot of it just depends on how my knee responds when we go out there and practice this week, and hopefully it will continue to get better,” Bradford said before the practice.

But, this video from Darren Wolfs of KSTP says something a little different…

In other words, we don’t know. But brace MN fans, because my gut feeling tells me Bradford won’t be taking the field on Sunday. We are going to get another Case of Keenum…. have you heard that one yet?

Wild Host Jets in Preseason Opener; Parise Back Soon?

You should watch the preseason game tonight vs the Jets because the Twins don’t play and a lot of the Wild’s future players will be on the ice. Also, Matt Cullen will wear a Wild jersey for the first time since 2013.

Parise is still yet to practice with the team but went through a half-hour skate today that was supposedly intense according to Joe Christensen of the Star Tribune:

“Zach Parise had a high-speed skating and shooting session before today’s Wild practice that lasted at least 30 minutes, and he appeared to be moving well.”

Sano’s Return Still a Mystery:

Miguel Sano went out a month ago, after fouling a ball off his shin, with a “stress-reaction”. It was a day-to-day thing and he wasn’t even put on the Disabled List right away. He was eventually placed on the 10-day DL but wasn’t ready when he came off. He has been ramped up and then slowed back down a couple of times, as well.

Well, now Molitor says it will be difficult to get Sano back in the lineup before, or during, playoffs.

“We’re down to a dozen games here,” manager Paul Molitor said in observance of the unhappy anniversary. “My biggest concern now is, even if he gets to a point where I can get him on the field in any capacity, it’s going to be, how much of a challenge is it for him to have any type of timing at all, with some of the pitching we have to face? It’s going to be hard to give away at-bats, just to hope he’s got it.”

I would be willing to risk Sano’s timing to get his bat back in the lineup but Molitor is right, to an extent. It would be extremely helpful to start ramping Sano up right now so he would be ready for a potential one-game playoff, into a potential 5-game series.

One thing looks pretty clear. The Twins won’t have Miguel Sano as they race for that final Wildcard spot. Their are only 10 games left after the Twins lost today. They are 1 game ahead of the Angels, who still have a game vs Cleveland tonight.
