Kevin Garnett’s #5 to be Retired in Boston While Wolves Fans Wait for Forgiveness

We wrote about this whole Glen Taylor/Kevin Garnett controversy a long while back. KG refuses to put his #21 jersey in the rafters of Target Center because he has lost all respect for (and seems to absolutely despise) Taylor.

But the topic is being primed again tonight, because Garnett’s #5 that he wore and won an NBA Title with the Celtics in, is about to hang in the rafters of TD Garden starting next season.

Fun, right?

I feel like I’m being slapped in the face a little bit but this isn’t surprising, so it’s hard to be that upset. KG has made how he feels about Glen Taylor VERY clear over the last few years…

I know KG isn’t allowing his jersey to be retired because of Taylor but his stubbornness hurts the fanbase a lot more than it hurts Glen. We all know he wanted to own a piece of this franchise and if it were up to us, we’d give him the whole fucking thing….

…but it’s not up to us and we can’t replace our owner (no matter how much we may want to).

Maybe someday, #21 will float to the ceiling of Target Center but I’m more convinced than ever, that day will only come when Glen Taylor is no longer with us…

With Kevin McHale now suing him and clearly no path to forgiveness on the horizon with KG… relationships between our owner and past staples of this franchise seem to be deteriorating rather than ameliorating.

So, we’ll just watch as Boston loves our Big Ticket like we wish we could. Whenever you’re ready, Kevin… we will be here with open arms.

I know one thing for sure: Timberwolves KG > Celtics KG.
