P.J. Fleck and the Minnesota Gophers wrapped up their 2024 season in style, earning a solid 24-10 win over Virginia Tech in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl. The victory capped off a strong finish, with the Gophers officially ending the season with an 8-5 record.

P.J. Fleck has racked up a perfect 6-0 record in bowl games during his time at Minnesota, which is seriously impressive. It’s a testament to the steady success the program has enjoyed since he took over. With the season officially wrapped up, we’re now diving into portal season, and Fleck and his staff have been crushing it, landing players left and right. However, today brought a bit of a setback as the Gophers lost two defenders to the portal.

Minnesota Gophers lose Coleman Bryson and Martin Owusu to the transfer portal

The Gophers got hit with some tough news today, but honestly, it could’ve been worse. Defensive back Coleman Bryson and defensive tackle Martin Owusu have officially entered the transfer portal.

Bryson Coleman stole the spotlight as the MVP of the 2022 Pinstripe Bowl, racking up seven tackles, breaking up a pass, and taking a 70-yard interception to the house for a touchdown. However, with Koi Perich now shining, Coleman’s role has taken a hit. During his time with the Gophers, he’s notched 54 tackles and played 612 snaps. Coleman still has two years of eligibility left to make his mark in college football.

Owusu, on the other hand, hasn’t made much of a splash in his Gophers career so far. The Prior Lake native redshirted in 2023 and has had very limited opportunities on the field.

Owusu, a 3-star recruit from Prior Lake High School, graduated in 2023 and is wrapping up his second season with the Gophers. After redshirting his freshman year, he played in just one game this season, against Rhode Island, where he recorded one tackle.

Owusu has honestly been a letdown, and while Coleman showed some flashes, he got replaced by Perich. who’s just too talented to keep off the field. You can’t really blame either of them for looking to explore other opportunities.
