Notre Dame Transfer Quinn Carroll Commits to Home State Gophers

Life happens fast in the transfer portal days of NCAA athletics and the Minnesota Gophers came out on the winning end this time around. Notre Dame transfer and Edina high school graduate, (OT) Quinn Carroll, has announced his commitment to play for his hometown Gophers.

Carroll was recruited hard by PJ Fleck when he first arrived on the scene. He was one of two players PJ dropped in on via helicopter, a recruiting move that will live in infamy. Now, three years later, the 6’6″, 300 lb offensive tackle changed his mind. He has three years of eligibility remaining.

From Edina to South Bend

At Edina, Quinn Carroll was a monster and ranked as 2019’s #1 in-state recruiting prospect. His 4-star (.9472) 247Sports composite rating ranked Carroll 12th among offensive linemen in the country and just outside of the top-100 overall. The Minnesota Gophers made it as one of his finalists but, in the end, he went with Notre Dame.

Unfortunately, he suffered a knee injury in 2019 and struggled to find find his way onto the field after recovery, logging just 52 snaps combined in two seasons (2020, 2021) according to PFF. On January 3 (yesterday), Carroll announced he was entering the transfer portal. Immediately, Minnesota fans started dreaming. But even the most optimistic couldn’t have foreseen a commitment to the Gophers just one day later.

But here we are. So hopefully, Quinn can turn his career around in Dinkytown to become the collegiate player everyone expected out of high school. Given how Fleck and Brian Callahan raised the current crop of O-linemen, he’s in a good spot.

Some home cooking on weekends should help.
