Above is a video taken of an Iowa Football coach recruiting. That’s PJ Fleck in front of him, showing which kids are ones he’d want in his boat. If the video played long enough, you would see PJ lock-in hard on a high school footballer, thus signaling the Iowa coach to immediately offer, and start to recruit said player. Sometimes, it even takes a commitment to convince the Iowa coaching staff to get off of their asses and get back to doing what has made Iowa Football “successful” for so long.

Here are a couple examples in just the last week:

Aaron Witt is a Defensive End from Winona, MN. When things between the Gophers and Witt started to get hot and heavy last summer, Iowa came calling. When Witt committed to the U back in November, it only made Iowa want him more. Well, they finally got their wish earlier this week, when Witt decommited from the U and planned trips to both Iowa State and Iowa.

Remember when I mentioned that sometimes Iowa waits until a high schooler has actually committed to the Gophers before they even offer and start recruiting said player? No seriously, they are terrible at hiding it. Take this last one. I love the quotes that he gave 247 Sports:

“Iowa started recruiting me last Thursday,” Jackson told Hawkeye Insider. “I don’t know very much about Iowa right now, but I will definitely be doing my homework.”

That is the best. They just started recruiting him on Thursday of last week… and a week later, he gets an offer. I just think that shit is so hilarious.

I would bet you that Iowa fans are just loving this shit. That’s fine because it just shows how fast the Gopher program is rising and where the Iowa program is falling. If the goal is to win games, these kids would be making a huge mistake.

On a side-note, let’s quickly discuss what a “hard” commit apparently means. Here is another quote from Sam Jackson, on Iowa offering him even though he is committed to the Gophers:

“Minnesota is definitely still solid. I will think about giving Iowa visit .. it’s a very tough decision.”

So, are you still solidly committed or are you thinking about taking visits to other schools? That just doesn’t make any fucking sense. Look, I know you are a young kid and your mind changes, but just the mentality of that comment is off-base. You get one of your first D1 offers as an underclassman, what goes through your head?

Honestly (and obviously), I wouldn’t know. But before I committed to that school, I’d sure think that one of the questions I’d pose to myself would be: ‘hmmm, if I get an offer from another Big Ten school or “power five” school, will I seriously think about visiting and possibly decommiting from this University?’

Clearly for Sam Jackson, the answer to that question is “yes”, because that’s what he said of the Iowa offer…. not a school who he’s had a relationship with for years… but a school that just started recruiting him last week? So again I ask… were you ever really “committed”?
