As of now, according to 247Sports.com, the Golden Gopher’s class of 2019 football class ranks third (behind Michigan & Ohio State) in the Big Ten. In addition to the conference bronze medal status, the group of eleven players currently holds the 15th best overall grade nationwide.

P.J. Fleck and his coaching staff’s recent ripping up of the recruiting trail has centered around securing a slew of coveted three-star athletes. The lone four-star player of next year’s bunch, (DE) Jason Bargy, is just over a week removed from his U of M commitment.

If singling out Bargy felt like somewhat of a jab, that wasn’t my intention. To me, that’s only a pop-shot if coach Fleck had the Maroon and Gold’s 2019 class trending in the wrong direction. Considering he’s up there with the likes of Jim Harbaugh and Urban Meyer, it’s a testament to the solid core of future Gophers.

On that note, let’s zig zag back to the topic of four-star recruits:

Jirehl Brock is the third best 2019 prospect in the entire state of Illinois. Recently, the country’s eleventh ranked RB, who is still uncommitted, announced his “top 5”

For those of you who didn’t have time to digest the video (or were rubbed the wrong way by that damn hip-hop music that we Millennials enjoy), Brock’s final five schools are as follows:

As for the leading candidates to land the shifty RB’s services, according to Allen Trieu of 247Sports’ source, “pre-official visits, it’s Iowa and Minnesota at the top.”

In regards to when Brock’s official visits will occur, the following excerpt comes from Kyle Goblirsch’s Thursday afternoon article:

Entering this upcoming season, senior RB, Rodney Smith has already racked up 626 career collegiate carries. With Shannon Brooks sidelined due to injury, that number could be flirting with the 900-mark before the 2018 campaign is all said and done. While Brooks is set to return in 2019, that will mark his final season of eligibility.

Obviously, the future presents plenty of opportunity to the appropriate playmaker. As for whether or not that will be Jirehl Brock; for now, we will have to wait and see.
