The Minnesota Gophers just landed their 14th commitment for their 2021 class this evening, in Defensive Tackle, Albert Regis. Regis is a 3-star out of Texas who currently plays a more polished Tight End, than he does DT… That’s right, he’s a tight end by trade but the extreme list of offers he held, were to play inside defensive line. He never visited the University of Minnesota campus, just like many of the other thirteen 2021 commits.
247Sports.com loves his future at that position, because of what he has learned at TE so far in his career. Scouts love his quickness and athletic ability for such a massive human.
He’s a classic PJ Fleck guy too, described as someone who has a motor that’s always running and a constant drive to improve as a person and on the football field. Those are the exact players that Fleck and his staff want rowing their boat… and Papa PJ has already made a huge impression on this mountain of a man…
“I’d say what put Minnesota over the other schools recruiting me was the environment there. How they treated the community, and how honest and caring they were with me in the recruiting process. When I told coach Patterson and Wilt, they were real excited to have me. Coach Wilt has told me that Minnesota wants to use me in different roles along their defensive line and I love that honestly.
I’m now done with all of my recruiting. I’m set on Minnesota. I want Gopher fans to know I’m ready to come and make an impact. I want to leave my legacy behind there.”

Regis doesn’t have the star-power we’ve seen from a lot of the 2021 class but his list of offers is full of college football powerhouses… especially in the state of Texas.
Every major program in that state has offered this kid… (including, TCU, Texas Tech, Baylor, Houston and SMU)… except the big one: The University of Texas. Usually, these underrated recruits that PJ finds after their junior year, have massive senior seasons and other schools need to be fended off (Bateman)… so we’ll see if Texas eventually comes calling.
From his quote above though, it doesn’t seem like it will matter. Here is Albert’s Hudl film.
