Minnesota Gophers Star QB Arrested

The Minnesota Gophers football team has a chance to provide one of the better seasons in recent history next season.
Not only has an increase in NIL funds allowed PJ Fleck to retain key pieces of the 2025 roster, but he and offensive coordinator Greg Harbaugh believe they roster one of the best starting quarterbacks in Gopher history, Drake Lindsey.
Drake has the prototypical NFL QB body, at 6’5″, 230 235 pounds. As a true freshman season, Drake Lindsey arrived on campus, where he immediately got a front row seat and crash course in how to win over and lead a football team, watching now-Minnesota Vikings quarterback Max Brosmer.

Then last year, as a redshirt freshman in 2025, the Fayetteville, Arkansas native took over as the Gophers’ starting quarterback, where he threw for 2,382 yards, 18 touchdowns and 6 interceptions, in his first season under center.

Not only are Fleck and other coaches in Dinkytown excited about what Drake Lindsey brings on the football field, from a talent standpoint, but they oftentimes rave about the model citizen he is off the field.
Unfortunately, when his mugshot appeared on the internet Friday, after he was arrested in Fayetteville early this morning on minor drinking and fake ID charges, Lindsey undoubtedly failed to meet whatever standard the young QB normally sets.
Solid mugshot for Drake Lindsey…

…but I don’t think that’s “the standard” PJ Fleck is always preaching about… 😬 pic.twitter.com/7wPOXjQlUw
New Drake Lindsey strength and conditioning update dropped early this morning.

If he threw at all, or ran the 40 yd dash, it's not public info… https://t.co/M2CN3GLG35 pic.twitter.com/9JT6QDeClG
When you are the starting quarterback of the Minnesota Gophers, the standard you are held to is as high as it possibly can be, both on and off the field. In Fleck’s eyes, the QB of his program IS the standard.
Minnesota Gophers respond (not really) to arrest news
Nonetheless, we are all human and. While I surely expect Drake to be held accountable, I also expect Minnesota coaches and teammates to quickly accept whatever punishment is handed down to their quarterback — and whatever apology he offers — faster than it took to book him into a Fayetteville jail cell early this morning.
Meanwhile, the MN Gophers released an extremely short statement on Lindsey’s arrest, via local U of M insider and reporter at the Pioneer Press, Andy Greder, essentially saying the school is investigating the incident, and that it plans to handle any discipline that stems from it, internally.
“We are aware of the situation and will address it internally.”

Let’s not overreact to Drake Lindsey arrest
Let’s start and end this conversation with some empathy for our 20-year-old quarterback. Besides, Thursday was a historic night in Minnesota sports history, with both the MN Wild and MN Timberwolves advancing to the second round of the postseason.
Even back at home in Arkansas, I can’t blame Drake for wanting to celebrate remotely with the state that adopted him. And let’s be real, this is a kid who turns 21 (legal drinking age) in August.

Who didn’t have a fake ID when they were that close to turning 21? You know most of his friends are already of age. Unless you a 20-year-old who completely avoids fun, trouble can be hiding around any corner.
Walk into the wrong bar or attend the an unlucky party… and you can end up with a mugshot just like Lindsey did early this morning. Hopefully, our young QB takes this situation seriously and spins it into a motivating factor to drive what still forecasts as an incredibly bright future.
Wow. Gophers' Drake Lindsey is already getting NFL Draft hype. As a redshirt sophomore, he will be eligible for the 2027 draft.
