The Minnesota Gophers have had some controversy at the quarterback position this offseason, starting with the announced transfer of 2023 starter, Athan Kaliakmanis; which was followed shortly thereafter with the commitment of New Hampshire transfer, Max Brosmer.

But underneath all of those questions on what PJ Fleck will do at the most important position in football next season, there were many wondering if 2024 3-star QB commit, Drake Lindsey (Fayetteville, AK), was having second thoughts about his plans to attend the University of Minnesota.

Over the last week, however, Lindsey has done everything within his power to show his commitment to the Gophers is as strong as ever. The 6-5, 220 pound high school senior wore a University of Minnesota hand towel for the entire 7A Arkansas State Tournament, which culminated in a State Championship trophy and MVP honors to boot.

After the title game, he and his family took on-field pictures with PJ Fleck, who was on site to watch his future quarterback lead his high school team to the highest possible achievement in grade school football.

But that must not have been enough to keep other teams around the country from blowing up his phone. On Monday, Drake took to social media because he felt like he had to renew his commitment to the Minnesota Gophers.

There’s a reason why so many other programs are finding them infatuation with Lindsey, as they comb the landscape for talent that may have fallen through the cracks in the 2024 recruiting cycle. We’re talking about the most proficient passer in all of Arkansas.

In his junior and senior seasons combined, Drake threw for 7,181 yards, 88 touchdowns and just 5 interceptions. Yes… 5 total interceptions. Two as a junior, three as a senior.

Not only did he put up mind-numbing individual numbers against the best possible competition in the state of Arkansas (7A), but he played the most important position on the team that took home the ultimate prize too.

Who knows what Drake Lindsey will become as a power 5 college football player and PJ Fleck’s track record in raising young QBs is beyond flawed, but it looks like the Gophers will get their shot at developing one of the best quarterbacks in the state of Arkansas.
