According to the Star Tribune’s Marcus Fuller, Minnesota Gopher Basketball guard Marcus Carr is withdrawing from the NBA draft and will play this upcoming season with the Gophers.

This is huge news for the Gophers and Richard Pitino as they suddenly look like they can compete this year. If Carr didn’t already play with a chip on his shoulder, he is dedicating this season to something that is bigger than basketball.

GOPHERS GET ADDED DEPTH

Assuming that all of the transfer waivers go through, the projected starting 5 for the Gophers looks very intimidating…

Look for the Gophers to have a very productive bench as well, with G Tre Williams, G Jamal Mashburn Jr, F Jarvis Omersa, and F Eric Curry all coming off the bench.

One thing is for certain, this team is in a much better spot then they were last year and could surprise a lot of people. The addition of Carr should propel the Minnesota Gophers into NCAA Tournament conversation and maybe even beyond that. Now, we just have to hope that Pitino can solidify himself as the coach we have always wanted him to be.

I don’t know about you guys, but I am beyond excited to watch this team play… whenever that may be.
