Wow… just another offseason with Richard Pitino as your head coach, amirite? All of your assistants leave for different opportunities, your players leave for the draft before anyone expects them to, and youโre left scouring the transfer portal for Alihan Demir, in hopes he’s enough to limp into the NCAA tournament for the next season… and our pets’ heads are falling off!
Marcus Carr will one day play in the NBA but it would be a huge mistake for him to leave this season. He has a chance for the Gophers to be HIS team in 2020-21. The NBA will always be looking for point guards that can handle and shoot the basketball. I also don’t think it will look good to NBA scouts, that he spent one year at both college stops, before deciding he wanted to move on to something else.
Carr isn’t hiring an agent, so if he doesn’t get the review he wants from the NBA draft board, then he can still come back and play for the Gophers. However, his instagram post doesn’t seem like that’s his goal. I also won’t fall for that false sense of hope, like we did last year for Amir Coffey.
Again, I find myself at a loss for words, on what this means for Pitino… I continue to tout how much I like this guy but if none of his coaches or players feel the same way, then it doesn’t matter what I think.
I guess we’ll just keep waiting for some good news out of Gopher basketball. Who knows when we’ll actually get any.
