I would have titled this blog “Gophers Upset #19 Michigan at The Barn” but technically this victory wasn’t an upset. The Gophers were bet up to -2.5 points by the time this game tipped off, which just shows how crazy the Big Ten season has been, early on.

With less than 10 minutes left in the 1st half of this game, the outlook was bleak. Michigan controlled play and looked to outmatch the Gophers in every aspect that didn’t include Daniel Oturu. They flirted with double-digit leads most of the half…but suddenly, that all changed and it was a 1-point game entering halftime.

In the second half, Dan Oturu got a tag-team partner, named Marcus Carr. Coming out of the break, Carr had 5 points and 6 assists. By the time we got to crunch time though, he had 20 points and 12 assists to go next to Oturu’s first-ever 30-point game. Oturu even left for a few minutes with what looked like a scary injury… but it didn’t matter. The rest of the team held it together and Oturu came back just as good as before he left.

The Gophers would actually pull away enough toward the end, to where this game didn’t even really come down to free throws. They needed this victory too. You don’t want to have 8 wins and 8 losses, 16 games into a season, no matter how good your competition has been early.

Thanks for making the weekend a little more palatable, Gopher MBB..
