Dan Oturu just got named to the top-20 for the most prestigious individual award in college basketball, The John R. Wooden Award, which is awarded to the best player in the country at the end of every college basketball season.
With all of the preseason and early season watch lists that release throughout the year, for awards like this one, it’s crazy to see Oturu jump into the fold, after not being mentioned in any of the previous releases… but here he is.
He deserves it, too. Dan’s been the most consistent and brightest of stars for the Gophers. I don’t even want to imagine where they would be without him.
Look at these numbers (via ESPN)…
Stat | ’19-’20 | B1G Rank |
PPG | 19.7 | 2nd |
RPG | 11.1 | 1st |
BPG | 2.6 | 2nd |
FG% | .585 | 3rd |
The top-20 will now be trimmed to 15 finalists, all of whom will make the national ballot. A big performance to help the Gophers beat Wisconsin on Wednesday at The Barn, would go a long way in Oturu being on that final ballot of 15…
