Chad Greenway Thinks Stefon Diggs is Forcing Out; Questions Relationship w/Thielen

I heard this conversation between Eric Nordquist and Chad Greenway on KFAN, while typing a U of M blog for later. Listen to Chad go off on Stefon Diggs. It starts at the 57:50 minute mark, and goes for a full 3 minutes…

Chad is on Twitter, here. Count him as someone who believes Stefon Diggs is trying to force his way out of Minnesota and isn’t sure how he, or anyone else, could take the WR’s antics any other way. He says it literally…

Greenway played with Diggs for 2 seasons and said in this same interview, that Stefon was a great guy on and off the field. He noted that Diggs always bought into the team when they played together and that he worked hard. Greenway also said what all of us already know; that Stefon Diggs craves attention… a lot of it.

Stefon Diggs is also jealous of Adam Thielen. Greenway all but said that too. He thinks Diggs is done sharing the WR spotlight with Thielen, and that’s part of what lie beneath Diggs’ social media antics.

To me, it’s a cry to get out.. to try and say ‘I’m trying to get out of here.’ I want to go be ‘the guy’ somewhere else because I can’t be ‘the guy’ with Thielen here… and that’s how I see it.

I don’t know how it could be anything different than that.

“There’s Thielen and then there’s Diggs… and that does not sit well with Diggs. That’s just my perception of it. He wants it to be Diggs and then someone else…

When pushed back by Nordo, with the narrative always pushed on us, that Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs are close friends. Greenway doubled down… saying that’s just the perception we’ve been sold.

Greenway pointed to the fact that none of us really know their relationship behind closed doors and in the offseason, mentioning multiple times, that we only know what’s been portrayed to us…

“Well.. the PERCEPTION is they’re incredibly close, right? We don’t know what it’s like in the offseason or if they’re grinding together, working through stuff for next year, we don’t know what that looks like. I wouldn’t know… I’ve been away from it for too long to really see that. The PERCEPTION is that’s how they are.

But, can that be the reality if we have Diggsy, you know, throwing this temper tantrum about not getting the ball enough, or whatever he’s doing?”

Personally, I always assumed Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs were good friends too, because that’s what we’ve been told and that’s what they’ve portrayed to fans and media… like Greenway mentions.

If I sit down and think about it, I guess we don’t see them hanging out in the offseason all the time and we don’t see them touting their relationship on social media. Still, I hate judging a friendship on any of that.

This isn’t news because of what I think, though. This is news because Diggs has been “Diggs-ing” a lot lately and Greenway, who remains pretty close to the team and still lives around here, etc…. was throwing A LOT of shade his way (on the #1 sports news station in the nation) today.

It’s a very interesting thing for a former teammate to go so deeply into, given all of the circumstances.. Clearly, Stefon’s behavior is rubbing some within the organization the wrong way.

Chad said he doesn’t know how anyone, including Adam, could see all of Diggs’ behavior as meaning anything other than jealousy and a desire to get out of town. He said he definitely thinks Diggs is trying to force his way out and that he isn’t sure the Vikings have a voice that can wrangle Diggs in or talk sense into him.

Are [Adam and Stefon] willing to have that conversation, who knows? But you need to have someone in that locker room who is willing to.

It’s interesting to see how it’s going to play out. I don’t know, I just don’t like it when guys get what they want, when they pull this card. When they say ‘I want out of here for this reason or that reason’, but at the same time, you don’t want a guy that is going to completely screw up your whole season.

Look at Chad Greenway… stoking the Stefon Diggs fire as we go into the weekend… that’s not what I expected when he hit the airwaves this morning.

Diggs disciples can try all they want to defend him or explain his actions but this radio interview with Greenway showed how inexplicable all his actions really are.

If Greenway is pissed off enough, to go on this very public rant… he isn’t the only person associated with the Vikings who feels this way.
