As most Gopher basketball fans know, Richard Pitino’s in state recruiting history has been less than stellar to say the least. Aside from 2018 when Pitino managed to capture Daniel Oturu, Jarvis Omersa, and Gabe Kalscheur. Pitino now has the chance to grab a former MN high school standout by way of the transfer portal.

That standout is none other than Both Gach, who played at Austin High School in Austin MN before committing to play collegiately for the University of Utah. Gach officially entered the Transfer Portal on Monday, after briefly testing the NBA Draft waters. According to Darren Wolfson, Pitino and company have already inquired about Gach.

Gach played two seasons for the Utes averaging 9.1 PPG, 2.5 APG, and 2.8 RPG. Gach had two standout games in 2019-2020 for Utah.

The first coming at home against Oregon in a 69-64 loss. Gach scored 24 points while adding 2 assists and 4 three point field goals.

The other coming late in the season in an overtime thriller against Colorado. Gach led the Utes to victory with 28 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals. This was by far Gach’s best game and it came at the right time as this was one of the last time’s they saw Gach play.

We have no idea where Gach will bring his talents come fall. We can only hope that Pitino can give Gopher fans some hope in an offseason that has seen Daniel Oturu and Marcus Carr declare for the draft and Payton Willis transfer. By pairing Gach with new transfer Brandon Johnson, the future for Pitino would start to look a little brighter!
