Anthony Edwards is one of the fastest rising stars in the NBA. Yet, because he plays for the Minnesota Timberwolves, he’s often overlooked in league circles. But Ant doesn’t care about what others think. He has enough belief in himself, to make up for what the doubters lack. And then some.

In an interview with Complex Sports, Edwards was asked a wide range of questions. There were fluffy topics about his acting career and sponsorship deal with Sprite. But Ant was also asked about, and had interesting answers on, the Wolves’ 2021-22 1st round playoff exit, his expectations for the team this season and his career trajectory on a larger scale. As always Anthony Edwards exuded confidence.

With stars like LeBron and KD’s careers coming to an end, the league is looking for that new face. Do you think you can be the face of the NBA? — — “Oh yeah, 100 percent. Sure. I mean it comes with time and it comes with work and dedication. I feel like I got all three of those things and I feel like it’s going to take me over the top.”Anthony Edwards (Complex)

On that note, where do you rank yourself amongst the best players in the league. Do you think you still need time to reach to be in that best player category? — — “Yeah for sure. I need another year. After this year, I think I’ll be in the (best player) conversation.” — — So after this upcoming season, you’ll be in the convo for best player in the league?  — — “Yeah for sure.”Anthony Edwards (Complex)

Ant talks Wolves past and present

Edwards would go on to tell Complex Sports that he agrees with Karl Anthony-Towns that the Minnesota Timberwolves are a “championship or bust” type team, after the acquisition of Rudy Gobert. Ant’s expectations next year? That the Wolves make a playoff run and, on an individual level, he’s named an All-Star starter.

But it was when addressing last season’s playoff loss to the Memphis Grizzlies, that Anthony Edwards caught my eyes a bit. Not only does Ant feel the Wolves were better than the Grizzlies, but he thought they gave away the series. “like taking candy from a baby…”.

Speaking of the playoffs, do you still think of your loss to the Grizzlies and feel like y’all gave the series away? — — “Man, I feel like we handed it to them man. It was like taking candy from a baby and they took the candy. We had every game won man and I don’t know what happened. I don’t know what happened.”Anthony Edwards (Complex)

In a Minnesota sports world that currently includes Justin Jefferson and Kirill Kaprizov, Anthony Edwards might be the most exciting young star living out his early 20’s in the Twin Cities. The future is bright, Timberwolves fans.
