Vikings Have Trade Offer for Dalvin Cook

The Dalvin Cook offseason rollercoaster continues for Minnesota Vikings fans. Logical reasoning would suggest a split is in the works but a recent offseason shoulder surgery, paired with contract specifics that will make a split more expensive for the Wilfs.

Vikings have offer on table for Dalvin Cook

But there is another option on the table for general manager, Kwesi Adofo-Mensah. The Vikings could trade Cook. And according to what local insider, Darren “Doogie” Wolfson said on SKOR North Thursday, Minnesota already has a trade offer on the table.

“I did hear that there is [a trade] offer in on Dalvin Cook. So if they wanted to trade Dalvin Cook, there is an interested team.”

Doogie goes on to talk about how slim the running back market is this offseason, which could be driving up the trade market on Cook. That gives Kwesi an easy out if he’d rather funnel cap space to other parts of the roster.

The cap savings for trading Dalvin Cook would be the same as cutting him, according to Spotrac. If the Minnesota Vikings release him before June 6, they’ll save $8 million against the cap next season. If they do it after June 6, it’ll save them exactly $10 million against the cap.

Vikings could use some additional draft capital

The loss of a dynamic running back would feel much less traumatic if it comes with a couple of day two or day three draft picks. Especially given how few picks the Vikings are currently allotted, which is just four (projected to have five total picks, including compensatory).

A minute or two later, Wolfson mentions a handful of teams (Falcons, Broncos, Buffalo, Miami, Jaguars) who are in the market for running backs and may be interested in Dalvin Cook. He does not know what the offer is what is included in the offer or who it was from.

“So, there are teams out there. I don’t know if it’s a 7th round pick or a 5th round pick. I heard that there has been an offer made on Dalvin Cook and I don’t even know if the Vikings willing to say, ‘ok, yeah let’s do that’. I just know that there is trade interest in Dalvin Cook.”

If Kwesi wants to move on from Dalvin Cook, they now have more reason to do so.
