Vikings Finalizing Multi-Year Extension with Rick Spielman

After agreeing to a three year extension with head coach Mike Zimmer earlier in the offseason, the Minnesota Vikings are working on a similar extension with General Manager Rick Spielman.

The move was expected after Zimmer’s extension was agreed to, but now that both are reportedly done that gives both Zimmer and Spielman a little more security than they had coming into the season.

Spielman has been the Vikings GM since 2012. During his tenure the Vikings have drafted several cornerstone players. Players such as Danielle Hunter, Anthony Barr, Erik Kendricks, and Harrison Smith have all been drafted by Spielman.

All GM’s have picks that don’t pan out, but Spielman has had far more hits than misses on his watch as Vikings GM.

Regardless of your feelings of Rick Spielman and Mike Zimmer, stability is something the Vikings and all of us could use a lot more of these days.
